SCARY COYWOLF
Those who visit this site, know I write about animals almost evert week. However, if I wrote, I saw a “PORCOON” half porcupine half raccoon, you probably think I was insane and stop visiting ALLNORTHWOOOM.COM Then again, I might get more people like the big foot believers to visit my site each week. How about an animal that was half coyote, half wolf called a COYWOLF? Even though it might sound crazy to some, I do know two people who had dogs that were part wolf. Not only do I believe this Coywolf hybrid could happen, but it has already been confirmed in northern Minnesota and other states. So, I believe it’s just a matter of time before this happens in Wisconsin’s Northwoods. Don’t believe me? Wisconsin DNR has stated there is 6000 square miles of habitat that can support up to 500 wolves within the northern part of the state. The DNR believes there are 220 packs and each pack have a territory of 20 to 120 square miles. But wolves won’t let other wolf packs trespass on their home range, so young (lone) wolves will travel to find suitable habitat for his own territory. Then with the coyote population being the highest (20,000) in the northern half of Wisconsin, this new lone wolf’s territory at some point must be shared.
Sure, wolves will kill coyotes, but with frequent contact and close proximity, a young wolf could and will breed with a female coyote. If it hasn’t already, let’s say this does happen in the Northwoods. My question is, how dangerous would this animal be? Wolves kill 40,000 deer a year, with Coyotes harvesting 16,000, so how will this impact the Northwoods deer herd? A Minnesota biologist noted, wolves are shy animals, but are inquisitive and will “stand their ground” if they see a human. The biologist added, this act is not a show of aggression from wolves, just being curious. Then you have the Coyote that has no problem coming closer to humans and are more tolerant in urban areas. This biologist also said that the Minnesota Coywolf exhibits pack behavior, is more intelligent, more aggressive and is much bigger than a coyote.
So, we could have a smarter, meaner and bigger animal that is not afraid of people. Sound’s safe for us and our pets, right? Can anything be done to stop this? This is just my opinion, but I believe Wolves need to be delisted AGIAN and another hunting season established to bring the number down to the amount that the Northwoods habitat can support. Then, Coyotes can be hunted year-round, so besides having a mentored hunt programs for wild Turkey and Deer (BOTH LOW IN NUMBERS) how about adding special youth/mentor Coyote hunts, because if a youth can successfully harvest a Coyote, they can be successful hunting any animal. Still don’t believe there is such an animal called a coywolf. You can do your own research, but where do you think I got this picture, LOL
