AWESOME AUTUMN

There are some folks that look forward to winter because they can spend time with family around the holidays, others can’t wait for snow to snowmobile or enjoy other outdoor cold weather sports. After a long winter, others can’t wait for spring and the summer months and the activities that comes with those warm and hotter days. Then there is fall. I understand how some people can get a little depressed in the fall because this is the time of year people have to take their boats out of the water, winterize and store them, pull out their docks/swim rafts, racking leaves, and if they do not live in the Northwoods, close and winterize their cabins. On the flip side of that, there are others that look forward to the start of the hunting season, anglers know this time of year fishing really picks up, and people that have ATV’s and UTV’s are still enjoying the trails.

Even though it was time to pull our pontoon out of the water last week and dealing with per winter projects around the house, of the four seasons, there’s something about the transition from summer to fall (Sept. Oct. & Nov.) that I truly look forward to. According to some studies, there are psychological reasons people enjoy autumn over other months and researchers use the word (OLFACTORY) meaning it has to do with our sense of smell and the fall scents supposedly evoke good memories. I’m not a scientist, but there are many reasons fall is my favorite time of year, but I never thought the smell of the Northwoods was one of them.

I thought this week I would give my readers some of the reasons why fall is my favorite time of the year. PUMPKIN SPICED LATTE. There’s nothing better than sipping this on a cool morning. I’M JOKING. Because of the research done, THE SMELL OF THE NORTHWOODS. AGAIN, I’M JOKING. Here are some reasons no one can argue with.
* Yard work slows down, then stops (enough said).
*
Temperatures are more comfortable (less humid and outdoor activities are more enjoyable).
*
No Insects (most of the mosquitoes, bees & pesky flies are gone).
* If you have dogs, most hate storms, so no more lighting & thunder.
Watching college football (It’s not the NFL but these kids play for their future) GO BADGERS!
*
Watching NFL games. GO PAC GO!
* Trees, seeing those awesome red, orange and yellow leaves reflecting off the sun.
* Sleeping under a blanket with the window cracked a little can’t be beat.
* Flannel shirts. (I look forward to wearing those warm comfortable shirts).
* Air quality (the air is crisp, if that makes any sense. And allergies get better, if you have any)
*
Fire (Nothing better than the warmth, smell and staring at a fire, inside or outside)
Wait, the smell of a fire? Maybe researcher are right. LOL So,What is your favorite time of the year?
