IS FALL CAMPING FOR YOU?
If you like camping and have never set up an RV or even pitched a tent in the fall, I would say you’re missing out on the best time of the year to do so. Sure, there might be some people that will tell you “If you are camping with a tent your crazy because it gets cold at night, animals can be more active at this time of year and there will not be many other campers to visit with. Could it be chilly after the sun sets? To be honest, I’ve seen it snow in September, so yes, it’s possible. And yes, to build up fat reserve for the winter, wildlife can/will be looking for more food in the fall but I think most people that have camped at different times of the year will agree, setting up a camp site at the end of September/early October, is better than camping in the Northwoods come spring when the animals are waking up hungry after a long winter.
I would have to go alone on that, but if you don’t camp often, there is the TRIANGLE RULE, which is about separating where you sleep, where you cook and where you store your food and knowing this can cut down on wildlife encounters. As far as less campers? You probably won’t see many campers at neighboring sites, but a lot of folks just want to get away and enjoy quite mornings and nights without someone walking into their camp uninvited saying “HI, SO WHERE ARE YOU GUYS FROM”. Here is a little more on those Northwoods animals. Remember, “A CLEAN CAMP IS A SAFE CAMP”. To lower your chances of Yogi & Boo Boo Bear, Rocky Raccoon, Wiley Coyote or Alvin the Chipmunk coming into your campsite, NEVER leave food out or feed wild animals. After cooking burn everything you can in the fire pit and remove any other trash to a garbage container that is the farthest from your campsite.
So, if you like camping or believe this is something you might want to try, here’s 7 reasons fall camping can be awesome.
(7) You can have your pick of sites, because there will be less people (REMEMBER THE, HI, WHERE ARE YOU GUYS FROM PERSON).
(6) Temperatures are nearly perfect for all outdoor activities and sleeping. If you hike, you can pretty much have the trails to yourself and crawling into a cozy sleeping bag is better than trying to sleep on top of one, sweating your ass off.
(5) Less bugs. Most of those annoying flies and mosquitoes are gone and you won’t smell like bug spray all the time.
(4) Those awesome picturesque fall colors can’t get any better.
(3) If you suffer from allergies, colder months means less eye itching, sneezing, nasal congestion and sinus headaches.
(2) Perfect weather to bring your four-legged kids with you.
#1 A campfire. Although I don’t camp anymore, the best parts of camping or even now just sitting by our fire pit at home, is truly relaxing. I can’t think of anything better on a chilly night, then feeling the warmth of the fire while being memorized by the flames. When I did camp, having that hot cup of coffee by the fire in the morning was incredible.
